Privacy policy
What we collect when you use this website and the map, where it goes, and how you get it back or removed. Short, because there is not much.
1. Who we are
BEYOND Maps is made by GoBeyond, a company in the Netherlands run by Luuk van der Poel and Ziggy Triou. GoBeyond is the controller for the data described here. You reach us at luuk@beyondmaps.app.
This policy covers the website beyondmaps.app and the map at https://map.beyondmaps.app.
2. The website
2.1 No cookies
The website sets no cookies and has no cookie banner, because it needs none. There is no login on the website; the language switch in the header is a plain link and stores nothing.
2.2 Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to see which pages are read and where visitors come from. It works without cookies and without identifying you: it counts page views, the referring site, the country, the browser and the device class. Your IP address is used to derive the country and is not stored. We cannot see who you are or follow you between visits. Vercel's analytics privacy page describes it.
We also use Vercel Speed Insights to measure how fast the pages load in real browsers. It works the same way, without cookies and without identifying you: with each measurement it stores the load times, the page, the browser, the operating system, the device class, the connection type and the country, and no IP address. Vercel's Speed Insights privacy page describes it.
2.3 The feedback form
When you send us feedback on the home page, we receive the topic you chose, your message and, if you fill it in, your e-mail address. The form is handled by Formspree, which sends it to our mailbox. We use it to read your feedback and, if you left an address, to answer you. Nothing else.
2.4 The demo request for ski resorts
When you request a demo, we receive the ski area, your name, your role, your e-mail address and your answers about where the map would live, your lifts and your lift-status feed. Formspree sends it to our mailbox. We use it to prepare and send you the demo and to talk to you about a pilot. We do not put you on a mailing list.
2.5 Formspree
Formspree, Inc. (United States) processes the two forms for us. Formspree stores the submissions on its servers; its transfers from the EU are covered by the EU standard contractual clauses in its terms. Formspree's privacy policy.
2.6 Hosting
The website is hosted by Vercel Inc. Its pages are static and are served from Vercel's network. Vercel keeps the technical logs that any web server keeps (IP address, time, requested page) to run and protect the service. Vercel's privacy policy.
2.7 Avalanche bulletins
The bulletin pages on this website are built from the public data of SLF, avalanche.report and Météo-France. We fetch that data on our side, twice a day; nothing about you is sent to those services when you read a page.
3. The map
3.1 Your account
The map asks you to create a free account. An account stores your e-mail address and your password; the password is stored hashed, so we cannot read it. We use your e-mail address to let you log in and, if we have to, to tell you something about your account. We do not send newsletters.
3.2 Routes and settings
Routes you draw and the layers you switch on are saved in your own browser, not on our server. They stay on your device until you clear them. When we add saving routes to your account, this section will say what is stored and where.
3.3 Server logs
The map runs on a server we operate ourselves in the Netherlands. Like any server it logs the requests it gets (IP address, time, what was requested) so we can run it and protect it. We look at those logs when something breaks or looks like abuse, and delete them after at most 90 days.
3.4 Map data
The terrain, imagery, lifts, pistes, weather and bulletin data the map shows come from the providers named in the map and on this site. The map loads them from our own server; your browser does not contact those providers directly.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it with anyone except the processors named above.
- We do not profile you and we do not show advertising.
- We do not track you across other websites.
5. How long we keep it
- Feedback and demo requests: in our mailbox for as long as we need them to answer you and to run a pilot, at most two years after the last contact.
- Your map account: until you delete it or ask us to. We may delete accounts that have not been used for three years, after an e-mail.
- Server logs: at most 90 days.
- Analytics: aggregated counts only, with nothing that identifies you.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, and ask for it in a portable form. Write to luuk@beyondmaps.app; we answer within a month. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
7. Children
The map and the website are not aimed at children under 16. If you think a child has created an account, tell us and we remove it.
8. Changes
When this policy changes, the new version is on this page with its date. If the change matters for your account, we tell you by e-mail.
